The last weekend has ended with great success not only for Eliza Kubarska, Marcin Koszałka, Wojciech Staoń and Marta Prus, but also for Jakub Stożek whose documentary “Out of Reach” won the prize at RIDM in Montreal.
Over the last few days Polish documentary filmmakers have received several awards.
Eliza Kubarska was given the Prize of the Jury at Unnim Mountain Film Festival for her documentary “
What happens on Pam Island”, and
Marcin Koszałka — The Documentary Award at Bristol Encounters Film Festival for his “
Declaration of Immortality”. What is more, at the
52nd Festival dei Popoli in Florence
Wojciech Staroń, the director of “
Argentinian Lesson”, was crowned Best Director and
Marta Prus’s “
Vakha and Magomed” was assigned as the Best Short Film.
Recently, Jakub Stożek has joined to the list of winners. His documentary “Out of Reach” was awarded the Special Mention at Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal –
RIDM, Canada.
Every year, the festival in Montreal shows about one hundred films from around the world to audiences of industry professionals and cinephiles. Films are selected for their uniqueness and artistic merit, and cover several broad themes (social, political, environmental). The festival also hosts workshops, meetings and roundtables for the public, industry professionals and partners.
“Out of reach” is a story about two teenaged girls who were raised without a mother. Due to a complex family situation sisters had to learn to be more responsible and independent than others at their age. Girl’s impressively mature decision was to attempt to come into contact with their mother and to rebuild family relations.
Jakub Stożek graduated from the department of English Philology at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow and from the Department of Radio and Television at the University of Silesia in Katowice. His director debut Out of reach was produced by
DARKLIGHTFILM STUDIO.
