SOMETIME AGO IN AFRICA

POLISH TITLE: KIEDYŚ W AFRYCE

After gaining access to the sea again, the authorities of interwar Poland conceived the idea of conquering Africa. The Maritime and Colonial League headed by general Gustaw Orlicz-Dreszer was responsible for capturing suitable areas on this continent. Soon, a submarine of the Polish Navy named Orzeł was officially launched, schools began to educate future experts and a special monthly, ‘Morze’, circulated the news on maritime expansion. After commercial and political cooperation between Poland and Liberia had been established in 1934, another ship, Poznań, set off on a pioneer voyage from the port of Gdynia to this African country.
