POLISH TITLE: OPÓR MATERII

The protagonist of the documentary is 50-year-old Ryszard Szczepanski, whose passion is bird watching. Inspired by the designs of Leonardo da Vinci, he decided to build a flying machine, powered by human muscle, which he called The Ornithopter. The film is set in the picturesque scenery of Kashubian hills, where Ryszard performs his attempts of taking the machinery to the skies. Realization of his great dream is accompanied by children - the audience his circus performances. Their whispers "will fly - won't fly" are both skeptical and hopeful.

Born in ’82 in Kolobrzeg. Graduate of Photography as well as Film and Theatre Directing Department at Polish National Film, Theatre and Television School in Łódź. Director and screenwriter of feature short „Dragonflies” that took part in the competition of the 64. Venice Biennale, where it was nominated for Prix UIP of the European Film Academy. The screenplay of her 30 minute feature film „Endless Beginners” was awarded with special jury prizes several times. An author of screenplays for numerously awarded animated films: „American Dream”, „The Rabbit’s Case”, „The secret of the Mallaka Mountain”.
