THE MIGHTY SMARZOL

POLISH TITLE: POD MOCNYM SMARZOLEM

‘The Mighty Angel’ is the most renowned novel by Jerzy Pilch, for which he was honoured with the Nike Literary Award in 2001. It tells the story of Jerzy, an author who has been grappling with alcoholism for many years. Thirteen year later a film under the same title, based on the book, was made by Wojciech Smarzowski. The documentary shows the plot creation process, starting with the idea, through photography until the struggle of the team and actors with the difficult, albeit common in Poland, subject of alcoholism.
